ravens island good news
Hi there, the ravens island campaign continues,
Good news Hotel Antoinette has pulled out of the 50 year lease that would have ended community use of the island for the lifetime of most kingston residents,
Even Barry Mahoney deputy leader of the council questioned the bid in the media.
So possibilities for community use are open again. We hear there may be only 2 options left on the table ,one which may contain some community use.
We did send proposals to the council, but were not officially entered into the bidding due to not having £80,000+ for a lease.or 1-2 million to buy this historic island back for the peoples use at the time.Although as many have said why should we have to buy back what belongs to the people already, that the council has forgotten it looks after on behalf of the people.
There is a council executive meeting this thurs 11th feb 7.30pm at kingston town hall, where they will be discussing the island.
We are asking everyone who cares about this incredible community resource to go and apply pressure on the council in this election year to garantee some community environmental use use.
There are proposals to set up a community development trust or community land trust and raise funds to acquire the island in the short term.
We are asking you to phone ,text, facebook, email and network to friends asap.
Check our website www.ravensait.org.uk for the proposal sent to the council. See you on thurs.

TITNORE WOODS IS ON ALERT
TITNORE WOODS IS ON ALERT
The future of Titnore Woods is threatened as Tesco and Worthing Council gang up to build upon the ancient woodland...
undefined The Titnore Woods campaign began in 2002 with the aim of protecting the ancient woodland from the threat posed to it from yet another Tesco coupled with a housing development. In 2006 it took to the trees in 2006. It’s future is currently hanging in the balance as it is in danger of being served an eviction notice if the West Durrington Consortium is given the go ahead for its development plans at the Worthing council meeting planned for March 2010.

The Incredible Edible team in Todmorden

In 1649 the chaos of the English Civil War inspired a group that declared
our land to be a common treasury and began to plant fruit and vegetables on
common land in southern and central England. It was a response to a shortage
of food and what the Diggers saw as the misuse of productive land by the
large landowners.

Alice Roberts meets the new Diggers - groups and individuals across the
country determined to tackle the looming food crisis by making the wasteland
grow.

8 The Maples
Upper Teddington Road
Hampton Wick

You may have noticed that ther is a new occupation in town!
We are a vibrant collective of people, young and old, on a journey to make sustainable living in London a reality, while making the most of unused properties to open as educational resource centres. Working from many walks of life, this is where the plot at 8 The Maples holds promise to create all of this, and more.

The area is currently being tidied and transformed into a place for families and friends to visit and learn about a mixed bag of creative outlets, sustainable homes, renewable energy, growing food and working as a community.
This will be done through using the space to host workshops, show films, make music, hold feasts, learn the skills, share the knowledge, inspire and be inspired and strive to build a future based on sensible resource usage that includes everybody!

Come visit us, come lend a hand, come with supplies or tools. Come join us to create a worthwhile project for a sustainable future.
